The hidden gem of Prashar Lake, Himachal Pradesh

Three of us went to Prashar Lake on a Holi weekend and did the trek independently. We took our own tents but no food. We used public transport and trekked till the lake (you can drive too if you want). If you have any questions and would like to contact me, please feel free to message me on my Instagram: @mountain.affair

“A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature. The fluviatile trees next to the shore are the slender eyelashes which fringe it, and the wooded hills and cliffs around are its overhanging brows.” – David Henry Thoreau.

Maybe you just want to go hike for a few hours in the mountains and not trek countless tiring hours to reach your destination. Maybe you can’t take a holiday from work and would like to experience camping during the weekend. Or maybe you aren’t so comfortable hiking or camping at all but want to spend time in solitude surrounded by a chain of Himalayan Peaks and witness the glorious sunrise behind them.

  1. Hey Hi,
I m planning to go on 1 January 2016.Could you tell me is it right time to go there.I have called above no mentioned by you but its not reachable.Do you have any other contact number to book tents out there?

    1. Hi Atul, I just have two numbers for Prashar. Vir Singh is the caretaker for the Forest Rest House and his number is 9459137877. Ram Singh is the caretaker for PWD rest house at Prashar and his number is 9459529024.

  2. Kindly provide me accomodation details as our group of 5-6 including girls are planning in second week of june. how will be the trek then? and kindly provide me your contact details so that i can chat with you for more details.

  3. Hello, i am planning to visit parashar lake this week. Would i find snow there at this time?
And please give an idea about the stay near parashar lake camp or guest House rates and food there. It is very important since i am planning a budget.

    1. Hi Pranay, thanks for writing in! Yes, you should be able to find some snow at the lake this weekend. For stay, you can either stay at the Forest Rest House situated near the lake, or you can camp near the lake. For camping, I would suggest you carry your own tent and sleeping bags. There are a couple of basic dhabas near the lake where you can get food and sometimes they also keep a couple of tents with them.

  4. What is the cost of tents (rental) if we want to camp? If we can find them around prashar? Planning a trip 30th March with a group of 4. Thanks !

    1. Hi Sanjay, I have never rented tents there so I am not sure of the exact cost. But I would guess it will be around Rs.700/800 for a night. Usually these tents are 2-person tents.
